2022 Men’s Camp: Day 2

“Let’s all take a really big bath together and compare dicks” – Watanabe Junnosuke

A new day dawns and after the first night in their bunk beds, the boys get up.

Image

First on the agenda was the usual morning marathon at 6:30am! The sunrise was really beautiful today too.

Image

What wasn’t beautiful was WONT BE LONG (Wonby for short) inhaling a melonpan while eating very loudly however.

Image

First place was CHE JiMiNG, who immediately collapsed on the floor after.

Last place was CHOi TANSOK, who arrived just in time for the daily “Good morning” chime!

Image

Sometimes places in Japan will have a good morning or good evening chime from a siren. The good evening one is more common because being woken up at the crack of dawn by a “bing bong” is probably very annoying.

Then it was time for breakfast, which was very quiet and awkward but ever the ray of sunshine PE YOUNGN hit us with the product placement.

Image

Then finally, the long awaited redemption challenge: throwing cups into another cup. There was no time limit but they were at it for a collective 45 mintues.

Image

Everyone was redeemed! i ZONSYO took the longest but he, along with E MAZACON, KWEN SANG WOO and CHA NOMUH, returned just in time!

The same as yesterday, the same groups had to come up with a comedy skit to try and make Watanabe laugh. If he doesn’t laugh, they don’t get to perform to GANG PARADE’s pretty pretty good.

Image

After a few hours, it was time for the performances once again. Tasukukusu, Bonbon, Goku and Pe were once again hilarious.

And they got to perform GANG PARADE’s pretty pretty good after too it was… pretty pretty great!

Next was Team 5 Chanming, Che Jiming, Choi Tansok and Cha Nomu. No laugh, no performance.

Team E Mazacon, i Zonsyo, Kong Buh and Kwen Sangwoo had a lot of dick puns so naturally, Watanabe laughed.

They got to perform too, and it ended with a callback to their skit. Also got a chuckle.

Team Toppo, Ayuno K, Wont Be Long, Nag Rajun had an… extended musical number about how great Watanabe is. Flattery will get you nowhere. Same with not being funny.

But, in a change of heart he let them perform anyway.

They’re really skilled dancers, so it was a good performance!

Tansok’s team got to perform too and it was a little weaker than the others, but the ending pose was cool and Tansok has a great singing voice.

Performance ranking

#1 Tasukukusu’s team
#2 Toppo’s team
#3 Kwen Sang Woo’s team
#4 Choi Tansok’s team

Hard to disagree! The combination of Tasukukusu, Bonbon, Goku and Pe has been charming and to a high standard for the past day and a half. But of course, this is a competition, so after lunch the teams get mixed around again.

The new teams are:

Team Sex (John Goku, Chi Jiming, Tasukukusu, Sangwoo)
Team Ochinchin/Cock (Kong Buh, Toppo, Chin Bonbon, 5 Chanming)
Team Anus (Pe Youngn, Cha Nomuh, Zonsyo, Wont Be Long)
Team Vagina (Ayuno K, Mazacon, Tansok, Nag Ranjun)

This time, they’d be performing to a demo song for the upcoming boygroup titled GAP.

Whatever you expect from WACK, it won’t be that. But, WACK is always ever changing, so you can never say “this doesn’t sound like a WACK song” because… it’s a WACK song. Same with Mameshiba’s comedy skits, same with GO TO THE BEDS’ industrial rock, same with Kenta-core rock ballds. All different, all WACK. Always has been.

Also, the composer is Harada Shigeyuki from the group Shiggy Jr. and not Kenta or a member of SCRAMBLES!

It was a long practice period and then again towards the end, the one on one interviews with Watanabe. This week, one of our translators (ironically) had to miss this for a class on interpretation at University, but because we did things later theres more time to write things down. More information and facts! We love that.

CHiN BONBON

In the singing examination he forgot the lyrics but just kind of went with it, so towards the end he was just trying to make the most out of it and have fun. Watanabe told him to “find that something” previously, to think about why he really wants to do it and Bonbon felt a sense of accomplishment when his group was the only one that got to perform. As long as the audience found it fun, he feels the same way. Everything is going well with his team! Watanabe asked who he’d like to be in the hypothetical boy’s group with him and he said Tasukukusu: they seem like they get one another. In the next performance, he wants to focus on the dancing and showing off his cool side instead of just having fun.

KONG BUH

Watanabe asks “hows it going?” and he responds he was nervous at first, but everything is a lot more fun now. He feels like he’s finally breaking out of his shell slowly, but not completely just yet. “It feels like going from having my arms completely bound to being able to spread them as far as I want.” Watanabe told him that his Ochinchin face was good and that the first time they spoke, he looked a lot more anxious. Watanabe hopes he’ll be able to break free from his anxiety with his team and Kong says that the new song has a lot of cool points, like the dance part and the rap, so he hopes that he can convey that coolness!

T.O.P.P.O.

He feels bad that he wouldn’t have gotten to perform at first and Watanabe tells him that well, his skit sucked really bad. It felt kind of half hearted but Toppo says they all just decided on it and did it, no regrets. He also says his team was well balanced and it’s easy to do things with them. He’s improving his dancing and he’s trying to value the dialogue between the members of the group more, and Watanabe thinks he’s cool.

5 CHANMiN

Watanabe asks him if he’s noticed that he’s become one of the weakest members. He says that he’s a good guy, so he should lift his head and slowly move up. He’s never done comedy skits before which is why he was nervous, but he’ll learn from the experience. 5chan also feels like it’s easier to talk to the others now – his team is good and they’re doing their best but they want to drive the quality up too. He wants Watanabe to pay attention to his vocals more next time and Watanabe tells him to keep his head up and move forwards.

JOHN GOKU

Watanabe: Are you okay?
Goku: Yeah.
Watanabe: You don’t look okay.
Goku: It’s the death sauce.

Goku goes on to say that today felt good but making choreography is hard. As for the team, he feels like they’re okay but they might be in a pinch because the choreo isn’t ready. Watanabe asks if there’s anything he wants to redo or improve on and Goku says he wants to try and improve the mood. Practicing is fun but when he messes up, his not-so-great side comes out and it puts everyone on edge, especially himself. There’s a lot to do in 4 days so sometimes it’s good to be pushed by anxiety, because being too carefree can also be a bad thing. Rather than finishing everything in time, Watanabe asks him to think about what he wants to show and highlight first and make that the priority. Making a fun mood is quite literally the job he’s applying for, so next he should think about that. Also, to raise his voice a little more, not yelling, but speak with just a little more confidence.

CHE JiMiNG

The skit was terrible and he takes the blame for it. Watanabe says he liked the handgun pose at least. He feels like there’s been a good change in everyone in the team comapred to yesterday. Also that just like everyone else, he isn’t amazing at singing or dancing but he feels like he’s getting a feel for it. He also mumbles a lot and is hard to hear sometimes. He recalls when he forgot the lyrics at one point and Watanabe says it’s okay to be anxious sometimes because usually, you don’t do all of this in such a short period. What’s important to have the will and motivation to do everything in such a short time. Also Watanabe says that he looks bright but feels anxious and kind of offbeat, so he should put himself out there more and not just look the part.

TASUKUKUSU

Watanabe: How’s it going?
Tasukukusu: Kinda not great!

Swapping the teams has been a little hard on him, there’s lots of planning and work they need to do like figuring out who knows how to do what best. He also says that it’s so intense it makes his nipples feel heavy. There’s not enough time to do everything, saying this he cries a little. Watanabe says that he understands: he’s been in the audition process for so long, and all of that will be wasted if he doesn’t pass now. He tells him the same thing as Jiming – songs aren’t normally made in 6 hours so having fun is what’s important. Even if you mess things up, it’s important to overcome those mistakes. Tasukukusu is having doubts about if his performances are giving back to the people who have been supporting him all this time and Watanabe tells him he shouldn’t doubt that: you can’t doubt something you NEED to do. Watanabe also tells him to work on that because if he passes like this he’ll die from the pressure and that also he needs to work on his facial expressions a little, because sometimes his intense sad faces bring the mood down.

KWEN SANG WOO

His skit failed, but talking about it with everyone they decided to come out of their shell more and be straightforward with the jokes. It’s a good step forward and he has changed just a little bit, but he wants to change more and more. Watanabe asks “how’s Team Sex?” and Tasukukusu helped him with his dancing, so he’s trying to use that to improve himself by himself too. Watanabe thinks he can probably be more open about himself easily, so he needs to put himself out there and show his best! It’s not about doing it all in time, remember to have fun.

PE YOUNGN

How’s Team Anus doing? They’re having fun! It was his first time making choreo and writing, he wrote the base lyrics and everyone helped out. The mood in the group is “harmonious,” no one has any experience and it’s a big hurdle, but they’re really having fun. Despite not knowing anything, he puts fun as one of his main goals and he’s thinking about if he’s doing it well enough. Watanabe asks if he feels any changes and he says his will to not lose became stronger. Watanabe laughs and says “out of everyone here, you seem like you hate losing the most” and that he has a strong will, to which Pe agrees. As for what he wants to show off, he likes the group’s voices the best and wants to show that off. But really he wants Watanabe to focus on every little thing, even if that’s greedy.

CHA NOMUH

Even if he knows he’s really low ranking, he’s having fun! Even if he’s not that popular, he knows that he has people supporting him. Even if he was able to revive today, he fears he might be eliminated again, so he’s thinking about how to best stay in the audition. So Watanabe says “you weren’t giving your best before?” and Cha says it’s not like that, he just can’t help comparing himself to others and feeling like he’ll lose to them. He spent a lot of time thinking about how how he’d approach the audition if he passed to the training camp stage, which broke his spirit a little. He’s not giving up but he has a lot of mixed emotions and it’s like his will became stronger. Watanabe says that in this job, everyone is compared to one another. So don’t think about it – just do the best that only you can do.

i ZONSYO

He was sad to have been up for elimination yesterday because it was the first time he felt like he had fun dancing. One of the Nico comments said that making mistakes is fine and that he should do his best without being embaressed, so he’s keeping that in mind. It’s hard, but he’s slowly feeling able to be more confident about his dancing. Watanabe says that maybe he thinks he’s looking forwards, but it’s more like he’s looking 45 degrees downards so he needs to keep his head held high and work beyond his own expectations. But, if you’re having fun? That’s a step forwards. As for the team, he’s very glad that his teammates listen to what he has to say even if he knows nothing about dancing. He wants Watanabe to pay more attention to the dance formations, because this time they’re going to be more complex.

WONT BE LONG

The audition is fun overall, but he’s frustrated he couldn’t make Watanabe laugh. Watanabe says “well it wasn’t funny” and the punchline didn’t really land. He talked about it in yesterday’s interview, but he’s been trying to be calm a little more. One of the running themes for his team’s work is “slow down a little” even if there is a lot of excitement in working as a team. All of the people in his team are nice guys, so he’s doing his best to stay calm and not bring the mood down. Watanabe says that Wonby feels like he has a switch, like when the Eva units in Neon Genesis Evangelion go beserk mode, and he needs to not flip that at all costs. That’s his weakest point. For then ext performance, he wants to try and give his best because he isn’t used to singing and dancing at the same time, but his singing is good and Watanabe agrees.

CHOi TANSOK

He was scared during the skit, but Watanabe says he was probably overthinking it, to which Tansok agrees. They had a whole different idea at the start but they changed it right before the performance which is why they were all so anxious. They focused too much on the skit which is why their performance of PPG was lacking so much and Watanabe agrees that yeah, they did look very on edge. So, it ended up just flat out being bad. Tansok agrees and says they lacked coordination. Watanabe asks “how’s Team Vagina?” and Tansok says they’re becoming alright, he wants to show their sense of unity and Watanabe reminds him that “you guys were a mess 6 hours ago” so, he’s looking forward to see the new team dynamic.

E MAZACON

He was able to show his performance for the first time today! Feels like it went well. On the first day he felt nervous and withdrawn, but he saw how amazing everyone else was and he thought that he didn’t want to lose. So now he wants to try and bring out his best self. His team now is great, everybody has different roles in the team and he also has the chance to shine. He wants Watanabe to pay attention to the part where he’s the center, and Watanabe says he’s kind of like a lone wolf so he wants him to think about the group and balance between the members, more than just thinking about himself. It can’t always be “me me me,” because in WACK, all work is done in groups. It’s not nessicarily a bad thing, but he should think about it more and consider things.

AYUNO K

Feels he was able to break out of his shell during the skit, thinks he was a bit more confident during PPG. Watanabe says he’s still too nervous: whenever his part in the performance comes, he always looks shaky. He feels as if Nag is helping him pull through, but all of the members listen to what he has to say and he feels like it’s a lot easier to work with them compared to the last team. Watanabe asks if he can see Ayuno be more relaxed this time, says that Ayuno maybe uses too much strength and he should loosen up a little. He’s too stiff, but if he loosens up? He’ll be able to show his cool side even better.

NAG RAJUN

He says it’s difficult for him to break out of his shell and bring the best out from within. He’s not sure how to do it properly. Watanabe says it’s not an easy thing to do – it’s like writing lyrics for a song. If you write bad lyrics and try to fix them somewhere in the middle, like changing around a few words, it wont be good. You know you have to change, but building on it with small random fixes wont do anything productive. Rather than that, he suggests to throw it all away and start from scratch, because that’s when you’ll think about how to actually approach the problem. Nag’s impression after a day is that the audition is difficult, but very fun. Everybody in his team is nice, and because he has some experience in dancing, he’s the main one to help with choreography. The main point of the performance he wants to show Watanabe today is the rap, because he wrote that by himself.

And then after all that, it was time for the group performances!

Starting off with Team Vagina.

Image

(the screenshot quality is bad because i had to take it on my phone, sorry!)

Tansok’s dance skills got better and they were all around amazing!

Then Team Sex.

Image

They tried really hard.

Now, Team Ochinchin.

Image

Toppo’s pelvic thrusting was questionable, but an all around good performance.

And finally, Team Anus.

Image

Pe was charming as always and everyone’s dancing was very, very good.

Watanabe’s ranking was as follows:

  1. Ochinchin
  2. Anus
  3. Vagina
  4. Sex

Show that to your mother with no context. Everything was fun but Sex felt a bit desperate and disjointed. Vagina was also pretty good but focused too much on the choreography and not singing/lyrics, according to Watanabe.

For dinner today, everything was really lively! They all actually talk to each other now.

Image

Though John Goku is as always very polite when he eats. He didn’t even notice the camera was on him until somebody pointed it out.

Image

After dinner, they all reconfigured again and Watanabe announced that they’d be performing to another new song: DD.

And if you’re not hot on idol fan phrases, DD is short for Daredemo Daisuki (“I like whoever”), a kind of wishy washy phrase for floaty guys who don’t really connect with any specific member and just do whatever. It’s kind of negative but if you feel like you do that don’t worry, you’re probably on the other side of the planet and not trying to emotionally connect with a singer you’re paying $20 to talk to for a minute.

Then Watanabe announced that they’d be able to chose their own teams (and team names) which were as follows

Team Kinpuri (A portmanteau of Kintama Puripuri – jiggling testicles)
Ayuno K, Tasukukusu, Nag Rajun and Che Jiming

Team GNI (Giant Nihon Iikanji – Giant Good Feelings Japan)
Kong Buh, T.O.P.P.O, Chin Bonbon and 5 Chanming

Team Kaupa (Precum)
Mazacon, John Goku, Kwen Sang Woo, Wont Be Long

Team Anusshu (Anus + BiSH)
Choi Tansok, Zonsyo, Cha Nomuh and Pe Youngn

But also, these are the guys up for elimination

  • Cha Nomuh
  • Nag Rajun
  • E Mazacon
  • Kwen Sang Woo
  • 5 Chanming

Tomorrow’s game is individually sorting the mixed spices in a spice jar. Really.

Image

And so they all went off to do their own thing before bed. Pe talked about his experiences going to men’s bathhouses. Fun!

Today’s added bonus fact is that Tansok has the nickname “eraser” and “MONO” from fans in the Nicovid comments because his jacket looks like an eraser.

MONO XS

Our translators for today were Rachel Raisehell and Đorđe no Jinsei. Đorđe  REALLY came through with the interview translations too. Ganba Renai got her covid vaccine and felt a little too unwell to stay up late, so please wish her a speedy recovery!! Thank you once again!
