Notes

(1) The translation of Asobinin is “Players”, and in the new overture for shows, the robot voice says “Players” in English, but English speaking Asobinin refer to themselves as Asobinin even if they don’t speak Japanese. Like we did just there.

(2) The phrase used here was “B Melody.” In Japanese, the first verse of a song will be referred to as the A Melody or A Melo for short and the next verse or prechorus can be the B Melody. So even if you might be aware of the phrase if you listen to Japanese music, it was changed to be more beginner friendly, since it isn’t a phrase specific to idol fans.

(3) There’s a lot of debate over how to translate oshi. Jpop fans get annoyed if you say bias like in kpop and some people don’t like saying favourite because they swear down both of those things are totally different. The point of this song is to introduce GANG PARADE to new people, so we thought about doing the same thing and saying favourite to make it more accessible, but then we started asking if self-introduction songs are even something that appeals to people that aren’t already idol fans, and who the fansite’s audience is. If there’s a subtitled lyric video maybe we’ll do something different there too. At the end of the day anyone can do what they like, but we went with this as a collective. And hey if you aren’t a fan of the choice, the explanation into things was interesting, wasn’t it?

(4) At this point there’s no real official way to romanize their names because the company itself doesn’t care enough to be consistent. Japanese people are still aware that ユメノユア is (last name) YUMENO (first name) YUA because it’s something innate to their language even without the black dot you see for stylistic choices or to seperate foreign sounding words from each other. A more recent example would be WACK’s hamfisted attempt at trying to market in English writing it as both Tsuki No Usagi and TSUKINOUSAGI because whoever they hired is either using DeepL or doesn’t give a shit, so really at this point just do whatever.
